Helen had never been away from home without her father and now she was on some strange island with a husband and a baby, neither of which she remembered. She had always prided herself on never fainting but she had come very close when waking up without a stitch of clothing in bed next to a man.

Will had been kind enough to explain that there was a place to get tea and to relax and that was where Helen was now, trying to soothe her jangled nerves. It was terribly awkward, the whole situation, made even worse by this strange technology she did not understand and these people she did not know.

"How much time have I missed? How many years in the future is it now?"

[PB aside, she looks enough like Magnus to be recognizable - just blonde and 17.]

"No, I apologize. I would never intentionally forget you," Helen assured her. "I have had memory trouble...my husband, Dr. Zimmerman, tried to explain some of it to me and I still don't quite understand it all. What is your name?"

"Good, because we had some very... good times together." Nikola said subtly, letting her eyelashes touch her cheeks coquettishly before looking up at Helen with a knowing little smile. Oh, she was naughty and Helen would kill her... eventually. Just not yet. "Nikola, Nikola Tesla. The greatest scientist of the Victorian era and beyond. Your best friend clearly."

"Well, it is my pleasure," Helen said, leaning in to kiss her cheeks. "I wish I could remember. Perhaps it will come back to me soon?"

"Have you been here long?"

Well, that was nice Nikola normally had to bribe Helen to kiss her.

"Pleasure is all mine," Nikola said with a smirk, replying with a more enthusiastic kiss to Helen's cheek. Well, almost her cheek. Definitely near her cheek and also perhaps lips. "A while yes, not nearly as long as you have. We should get drunk. Toast our friendship, new and old."

"I'm not entirely sure that I should. Dr. Zimmerman might not like that and I do need to respect our wedding vows even if I do not remember them. I should be obeying him."

Not that he had explicitly forbidden anything to her but she wanted to be safe. Gregory needed his parents together.

"Obeying, please you're an independent woman. You may be married to him but you're not chained to him, you have freedom Helen." Nikola said, scoffing at the idea that Helen should obey dearest William. "This is exactly why I was celibate all those years, ridiculous notion. A doting wife, disgusting idea really."

"I know that," Helen said, frowning deeply.

"It still doesn't change the fact that I should respect my marriage even if I don't remember actually getting married. I don't want to do anything to affect Gregory."

"How is having an afternoon of delights with me disrespecting dearest William? You know he just loves me, I'm sure he wouldn't mind us spending an afternoon together." Nikola said lying with a perfectly straight, not at all wicked face. Really William just loved Nikola, perhaps not the part where he ruined all their lives repeatedly and occasionally, when she was bored and wanted to play dress up, borrowed his clothes. "Or we'll stay tee-total for Gregory and play dress up. You can borrow all my lovely Victorian clothes. I'll even help you lace them up."

She would enjoy that at least.

"I guess trying on dresses wouldn't harm anything," Helen decided, nodding once. "I just don't think I should get home terribly late. He might worry?"

"Of course it won't," Nikola replied with a small, ever so wicked smirk at the thought of telling dearest William how she had seen his wife naked. And helped her dress. Really, today was going far better than the last month had. "Of course he will, William is a worrier but don't worry I will bring you back in one piece without a bite on you. At least where he could see."

Nikola grinned. "I'm kidding."

"I don't know why you would bite me anyway," Helen said, utterly clueless in that regard. "But I can spend some time with you before going to tend to Gregory. Will should not have to do it all alone."
