Helen had never been away from home without her father and now she was on some strange island with a husband and a baby, neither of which she remembered. She had always prided herself on never fainting but she had come very close when waking up without a stitch of clothing in bed next to a man.

Will had been kind enough to explain that there was a place to get tea and to relax and that was where Helen was now, trying to soothe her jangled nerves. It was terribly awkward, the whole situation, made even worse by this strange technology she did not understand and these people she did not know.

"How much time have I missed? How many years in the future is it now?"

[PB aside, she looks enough like Magnus to be recognizable - just blonde and 17.]

It had taken Sam a bit to get used to looking older. Not that he was horrid looking or anything. Apparently he was one of those guys that got better looking with age. And thank the Primes he didn't end up looking like his dad. That would not have been fun.

He and Cassie had spent the early morning exercising and he had enjoyed being the stronger and faster one, although if the complains of his father were anything to go by, he was going to be feeling this more tomorrow than he was used to.

Now though, it was time for some tea, a habit he had gotten into after preparing it for Dr. Zimmerman so much. He hadn't even paid a whole lot of attention to the girl already there until she spoke up.

"Helen?" he asked, turning around at the unmistakable sound of her voice.

Helen had gotten used to being addressed by people she did not know but this man certainly wasn't someone she recognized. She smiled a bit, nervous. "I apologize, I don't recall who you are. I'm quite new and apparently have forgotten everyone I know."

"That's okay. I normally don't look like this. Usually I look more your age and you look closer to mine only in a lot better shape," Sam said. Of course, Helen was actually much, much older than she looked but no need to weird the girl out.

Besides, he was pretty weirded out as it was. Seeing Helen around his age did not help his giant crush on her at all.

"I'm Sam Witwicky," he said, extending a hand.

Helen was still not sure what to do with an offered hand and she hesitated for a moment before reaching out and clasping his warmly. It wasn't exactly a handshake, more of a handhold, but it was something.

"Helen Magnus. Though...I suppose you knew that already, didn't you?"

"Yeah, I'm your student-slash-assistant, actually," Sam said, scratching the back of his head in thought. This was really weird for him. In the grand scheme of things it wasn't all that weird in terms of what the island could do but it was weird for him personally.

"So everything here on the island is brand new to you, isn't it?"

"Very new," Helen said, smiling a bit nervously.

"I've been told I'm a wife and mother and I remember neither my wedding night nor giving birth. I am...coping possibly as well as to be expected with that knowledge, on top of the island itself. I'm your teacher? It seems impossible. They won't even let me take classes at university back home."

"If it helps, you become a very respected and accomplished scientist. World renowned even," Sam said. Of course, that was within the spheres of people who know about abnormals but that meant some really brilliant people.

"And I guess you're probably so new you haven't seen the dinosaurs."

"Dinosaurs? Here? I have never thought such a thing was even possible, they've been dead for millennia!"

Helen's face lit up and this was the happiest she'd been since she'd woken up in Dr. Zimmerman's bed without her memories.

Sam gave her a lopsided grin as her face lit up at the mention of dinosaurs. He knew that she'd be interested in that and she looked so stressed that he figured she could use some good news.

"Yeah. The unicorns and pegasi and dragon are pretty cool too."

Helen smiled shyly. "I'm not sure if I can visit the unicorns. While I do not remember my wedding might, I am married and have a babe in arms. It stands to reason that I may not be a virgin even if I went to bed as one last night."

"Right. I can't visit them either," Sam said, which was probably more than she wanted to know, although she brought it up first. "But my girlfriend does have a winged horse we could go see."

"A pegasus? I thought they were myths," Helen said, eyes alight with that prospect. Her father had told her about a great many Abnormals but winged horses hadn't been among them.

"Do you want to go?" Sam asked, unable to keep himself from grinning. It wasn't every day that you got to surprise Helen Magnus.

"The stables aren't that far."

"I would love to go," Helen said, beaming brightly. "You don't think my husband will mind it? I don't know the rules, exactly, about marriage on the island."

"You are so Victorian," Sam said with a lopsided grin. It was interesting to see how Helen used to be. Interesting and a little weird.

"But marriage on the island is how the marriage couple wants it to be. I promise your husband will be fine with it. I mean... I have a giant crush on you when we're our normal ages and he's fine with it."

"So long as you don't think it improper of me," Helen said, unable to contain her excitement about seeing a flying equine Abnormal. "This is a once in a lifetime chance."

"I think it's pretty safe to say I won't think that of you," Sam said with a smile. There probably wasn't anything Helen could do to not make Sam think the world of her.

"It's not too far from here. So have you thought about leaving a note to your future self or anything?"

"No," Helen admitted. "Do you think that I should? Oh, but what would I even write about?"

"Actually I have no idea," he said, heading toward the door out of the compound. Helen had seen the pegasus before as an adult but it would be pretty cool to get to show her off to Helen as a teenager.

"In a hundred plus years, what would you like yourself at your current age to tell you?"

"To enjoy myself," Helen said firmly. "I am far too serious a girl and I really ought to enjoy myself more."

"I think you enjoy yourself as you're older, but a reminder can't hurt, right?" Sam asked. That was probably good advice to a lot of older people from their younger selves.
